Pendock pipe boxing solutions give Rudyard Kipling School that ‘just so’ look

The encasement solutions produced by Pendock are widely used across the commercial and public sectors – including within schools and education establishments – with the manufacturer’s off-the-shelf and bespoke pipe boxing having been recently employed during a large scale refurbishment contract at a South Coast school.

The Rudyard Kipling School, located in Brighton, has been the subject of a year-long contract for locally based SMS Southern Ltd., with Pendock having supplied pipe boxing specified by Brighton and Hove Council.

The scope of the scheme was to disguise visually intrusive and potentially hazardous pipework in the school and its washroom spaces, which will also ensure that cleaning is made easier with no place for germs to linger. Equally importantly, the boxing will protect the buildings’ occupants against injury from the hot pipes behind them & also ensure the pipework cannot be tampered with.

Pendock, a UK based specialist manufacturer of encasements, including column surrounds, also provided a full site survey and design service for the project, together with installation schedule and drawings.

James Ayling, the Site Manager for SMS Southern Ltd., said:

“This was a complex refurbishment project – covering the full refit of the heating and domestic water services within the Rudyard Kipling School. The use of the Pendock solutions to box in all of the pipework for safety and aesthetic reasons was specified by Brighton and Hove Council’s architects, though our company had used them on other jobs in the past.“

“Overall we found the Pendock encasements very straightforward to install, much easier than other systems or fabricating boxings on site and they also make it simple to create a good and durable standard of finish. The contract within the Rudyard Kipling School took a year in all – working during term time as well as the holiday periods – as areas were made available, and progressed very well.”

Sizes of the encasements specified ranged from standard MX 100mm x 200mm, to bespoke MX 220mm x 450mm. Also fitted were bespoke Channel Boxing CH 100mm x 170mm x 100mm, and CH 120mm x 600mm x 120mm encasements.

Most fabrications were finished in Pendock’s standard Melamine material, but the manufacturer also provided a more durable laminated finish for the boxing used in the bathroom areas. In total 300 linear metres of boxing was supplied for the contract.

Launched in 1987, Pendock Ltd. started manufacturing pre-formed plywood casings and enclosure solutions at its factory in Telford, before developing a wide range of additional encasement solutions such as Pipe Boxing, Boiler Pipe Casings, Column Casings, Radiator Guards, Washroom/Toilet Cubicles, floor ducting, specialist HAVC Perimeter Casings & Bespoke Encasements.
