Pyroguard makes debut at Clerkenwell Design Week

The Pyroguard range of fire glass solutions made its Clerkenwell Design Week debut (21st – 23rd May 2013), exhibiting at the event as the specialist glazing partner within ‘The Planet Showroom’.

Manufactured by CGI International, Pyroguard is a market-leading range of fire resistant glazing products, providing access to large tested sizes which facilitate the creation of striking architectural designs – while ensuring Building Regulation compliance. This includes a Butt Jointed System which has been developed for use in impressive glazed partitions. Offering a near seamless joint, this head and bottom rail system is certified for internal use with aluminium (E30) as well as timber and steel (EI30 and EI60).

Visitors to ‘The Planet Showroom’ learnt more about the full Pyroguard portfolio of E, EW and EI rated solutions from Project & Specification Manager, Paul Wakeling: “Working in partnership with Planet Partitions, Clerkenwell Design Week is an ideal platform to showcase the design potential of Pyroguard. Fire protection is an essential part of building design, but at CGI International we believe this should not come at the expense of aesthetics. The breadth and depth of our product range gives specifiers maximum flexibility and truly pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved with fire resistant glazing.”

Paul was on hand during the three day event to explain how the benefits of Pyroguard extend far beyond its primary function of fire protection. For example, all Pyroguard products are subjected to sound insulation testing with some able to achieve a reduction of up to 45dB. Moreover, the proven insulating properties which make Pyroguard a market-leading fire glass solution also provide excellent thermal performance, with all products achieving Document L compliant U-values. He continues: “Combining acoustic performance, impact safety and thermal insulation with proven fire glass solutions, Pyroguard helps specifiers to simultaneously meet legislative standards as well as employer specific requirements.”

A key feature of the Pyroguard showcase at Clerkenwell Design Week was the recently launched Pyroguard-T – a range of high performance fire glass products providing access to some of the largest tested sizes available on the market today.

A gel-filled product manufactured with toughened glass, Pyroguard-T is extremely robust during installation and offers excellent impact strength of up to 1B1 (under European standards). Spanning fire ratings of E30 to EI 120, Pyroguard-T is manufactured to bespoke sizes by CGI International and shipped straight to site. Offering the additional benefit of large format applications, Pyroguard-T is certified for use in individual pane sizes up to and including 3m in height or 3.6m² in area.

Visitors to ‘The Planet Showroom’ also had the opportunity to access the Pyroguard ‘Applications and Tests Selector’ (www.pyroguard.eu) an online specification support tool designed to aid the identification of the correct fire glass product for a specific application.
