After 45 years in architectural and design practice, Beverly Willis, FAIA, began to realize that women’s designs, no matter how many awards or press they received, vanished from architectural memory. Research showed that many remarkable building and sites, and the women who designed them, beginning in the late 1800s, were undocumented and unknown. There was no parity in history for women. This alarming awareness prompted her to create, in 2002, the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation.
The Leadership Awards Gala will additionally recognize firms and individuals supporting and advancing women in the building professions.
In recognition of the firm’s use of metrics to expand its hiring and promotion of women, having shown an increase of more than 7% in the last five years, HOK will be honored with the Foundation award for a firm expanding opportunities and influencing the careers of women in the building industry.
