Based in London, the architect and interior designer Shalini Misra set up her own practice in 1996. She and her team transform residential properties worldwide, with recent projects including a Grade II listed London house, a sumptuous New Delhi villa and an apartment in New York’s landmark Bloomberg Tower with astonishing views across Central Park. In each of these very different locations, she has created very individual homes full of texture, character and interest.
Shalini approaches interior design with an architect’s eye, creating dynamic spaces for flexible living.
Her work is a thoughtful fusion of modern design with rich, historical inspiration. Visually exciting and genuinely comfortable to live in, her interiors combine layers of visual and tactile treats which she describes as having “Elements of wonder, surprise and beauty”.
Each project is a unique design response, often featuring bespoke surfaces, furniture, decorative objects and fine art. These pieces are sourced by Shalini on her travels or commissioned from her international network of exceptional artisans and artists.
Shalini also has a passionate interest in nature and ecology’s roles within the built environment and this translates both through her use of natural materials and her growing involvement in the concept of ‘intelligent homes’; sophisticated environmentally-friendly structures which are also supremely comfortable living spaces.
Shalini Misra is a Committee Member of the BIID (British Institute of Interior Design). She is also a member of the Tate’s South Asia Acquisitions Committee.
