Award-winning UK construction company, Gilbert-Ash has been appointed by developer KE Hotels to transform a former city-centre hat factory (Invicta House) into a stylish boutique hotel, in one of the most vibrant areas of Manchester.
The team will imminently move on site into the city’s Spinningfields district to begin work on the project that will see the historic building re-developed into a modern and stylish, 145 bedroom Moxy Hotel.
Moxy is a Marriott International brand portfolio that targets trendy millennials, a stylish hotel concept for the next generation traveller. Moxy offers contemporary design and approachable service at an affordable price.
The new hotel will sit within a mix of modern developments and historical landmarks. The impressive nine-storeys will give a new lease of life to the 18th century building with the historic, original façade set to be retained as part of the works.
The design will thoughtfully fuse together traditional and contemporary design, clad in weathered effect metal rain-screen panels. The perforated metal will recall the punch cards of a Jacquard loom as an echo to the site’s textile history, whilst the hotel’s interior will feature nods towards the building’s industrial past and previous occupants.

The site itself is very tight with three prominent buildings in close proximity. We have extensive experience of facing down challenges and working with historically prominent buildings located in restricted areas so are looking forward to working together with all of our partners to deliver this boutique-style hotel, in a very buoyant area of Manchester.”
