Jutland provides good value for Staffordshire

Cembrit’s Jutland fibre cement slate provides an attractive finish to a new £2 million crematorium in Staffordshire.

The Lichfield & District Crematorium is set in 10 acres of vacant agricultural land in Fradley and provides a peaceful place for families to visit and hold funeral services. There was a high demand from the Lichfield community for the development, as a crematorium in Coldfield was operating above capacity. Set within the Gardens of Remembrance, the project comprises three single-storey buildings, including a separate office block, a waiting area and the chapel, which holds 74 people. Stepnell Ltd was the building & civil engineering contractor for this project, while Coventry-based Pro-Roof was the roofing contractor and specified Cembrit’s blue/black Jutland slates.

Director of Pro-Roof Coventry, said:

“We decided to install Cembrit’s Jutland slates as the appearance of the slate is suitable for the picturesque surroundings of the crematorium”

“We were particularly impressed with how easy the slates were to install. This allowed us to complete the job quickly, something which the client was happy about. This combined with the slates being a cost effective option, meant that the project was an all-round success. We would not hesitate in working with Cembrit on future projects.”

Jutland slates are lightweight and feature a smooth surface, square edge and are pre-holed. They do not need to be graded and sorted like natural slates. These qualities combine to make them easy to handle and install and an ideal solution for a fast-track construction environment.

Jutland is manufactured to the highest European standards using Portland cement together with a formulation of superior blended synthetic and cellulose fibres. They are finished with a high quality, semi-matt acrylic coloured coating to the face and edges and a tinted, high performance binder to the back face. Jutland slates are manufactured in accordance with a quality assurance system to ISO 9001 and to the requirements of BS EN 492: 2004 product specification for fibre cement slates and their fittings.

Cembrit A/A+- rated fibre cement slates can contribute to achieving an environmentally outstanding building. The five variations (Jutland, Zeeland, Westerland, Moorland and Diamond) allow designers to achieve the highest ratings for roof specifications and are currently the only fibre cement slate certificated.
