This study, which WSP and Parsons Brinckerhoff, were jointly commissioned to do has now been published.
Mike Holmes from WSP commented:
“Following extensive research and stakeholder engagement, we found two options that should be considered for improving connectivity to the airport, both which serve different purposes.
“In the short term, highway improvements, particularly a new link road from the A65 to the airport, would be the best option to alleviate local congestion and reducing journey times. In the long term, a new rail link to both Leeds and Bradford would provide new journey opportunities for local and longer distance travellers, and promote the shift away from private car travel. However it would need to take into account existing rail constraints, funding availability and design requirements.”
