London Eye designer Malcolm Cook joins 3d Architects

3d Architects has appointed Malcolm Cook, previously a Director at TPS Consult (Carillion’s design arm) and Marks Barfield Architects, to the position of Managing Director.

He will be based at their Milton Keynes office.

Succeeding David Audus who retires in September 2015, Malcolm has extensive international experience, having delivered prestigious projects around the world. From Belarus to Oman, London to St Petersburg, Malcolm’s list of achievements include the London Eye, where he was lead designer and project architect, the original planning application for Canary Wharf, the first air side retail mall for BAA at Gatwick, and Oman’s Muscat International Airport, where he was project director.

Malcolm comments:

“I was attracted to 3d Architects as an established yet growing practice, whose retail, residential and commercial projects complement my own experience. 3d Architects’ culture of collaboration across the design team together with embracing technology and innovative working practices to deliver the client’s requirements on time and to the right quality, mirrors my own way of working.

“It’s a healthy company with a friendly creative design team of international architects ready to grow with the company and our customers. Thanks are due to the founding partner David Audus, who has grown the practice to what it is now.

“My plan is to develop 3d Architects by building on our current expertise in the commercial, retail and residential sectors, showcasing our concept design and strong track record as delivery and fit out architects. While building on our reputation for producing affordable brand design details that are simple to construct and can easily be rolled out across outlets in the UK and throughout Europe.”

Working with industry-leading names such as Nationwide and Primark, 3d Architects has proven experience in assisting brands to expand their presence across Europe, through sensitive local commercial negotiations and obtaining successful planning applications in challenging situations.

Malcolm continues:

“3d Architects has the added attraction of being part of the CADS Group with access to over 100 designers with retail expertise. As a group we can deliver a project from inception through design to completion. Starting with a 3d BIM survey and handing over soft landings with a 3d BIM model and data base of the design, we can help reduce clashes and waste on site and the maintenance and running costs of the completed project.”

3d Architects is also poised to take advantage of the residential building upswing, particularly in the south east. With one-off bespoke residences and developer schemes already on the books, Malcolm is keen to develop the existing portfolio into larger developments.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this international team of talented, focused designers, whose zest for collaborative working matches my own, and with whom 3d Architects can develop into a customer focused practice renowned as much for its positive and productive working relationships as its world class and sustainable designs.”
