MAC awards celebrate industry’s finest

The Royal Horseguards Hotel, London SW1 was the this year’s venue of choice to host the Mastic Asphalt Council’s AGM, Industry Luncheon and Awards Ceremony which took place on Friday 3rd June. The event, which was sponsored by SIG Roofing Supplies, was attended by the industry’s key players who gathered to recognise and applaud the many prestigious contracts submitted for consideration for MAC’s coveted bi-annual awards.

The Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC) Awards Ceremony is one of the waterproofing industry’s most prestigious events and provides the ideal platform for members to honour its top professionals and projects. Mastic asphalt has a proven record of reliability and durability and is recognised as probably the best waterproofing system in construction. As such there was no shortage of eligible, noteworthy contracts for the judges’ consideration.

Knight Asphalte Co Ltd were awarded the top accolade – Contractor of the Year Award – for the outstanding contract completed on Westminster Cathedral. Rio Asphalt & Paving Co Ltd were thrilled to receive the Challenge Trophy for their contract on the National Grid Warwick Car Park regeneration. Bell Asphalt Co were delighted to be presented with the inaugural John Blowers Award of Excellence for an outstanding terrazzo floor installed at Patterns Nightclub in Brighton.

Following the awards presentation, attendees were entertained by guest speaker – Liverpool F.C. footballing legend – Mr Phil Thompson. Phil entertained the audience with amusing informative anecdotes from his distinguished career both as a footballer and Sky TV sports pundit.

The AGM & Industry Luncheon is an annual event organised and hosted by the Mastic Asphalt Council; MAC is an independent non-profit making trade association representing in excess of 100 contracting, manufacturing and associate companies throughout the UK.

MAC’s AGM, Industry Luncheon and Awards Ceremony provides the ideal platform to celebrate its members success and reinforce the message that mastic asphalt is the best waterproofing system available within the construction industry; it goes without saying that the material’s proven track record in terms of durability and longevity is unquestionable.

MAC offers free technical advice to architects, specifiers, the general public and its contracting members. The Council is also proud to manage craft training and rewards Level 3 Apprentices who complete their training at Hackney Community College under the guidance of their tutor, Mr Alfred Tufano.
