British design studio, Mette, is to present its concept, Mattergarden, at this year’s 100% Design. This will be Mette’s third consecutive commission for 100% Design, and Mattergarden will form part of the Design & Build section sponsored by Formica.
Creative Director at Mette, Caroline Santos, tells us,
“Mattergarden is an appreciation of the Earth’s permanence: a celebration of its generous supply of materials, its structure and sustenance. The concept also explores the role of humankind as responsible alchemists and interpreters of its bounty.”
Mattergarden has also been conceived as an interactive environment to inspire conversation and engagement amongst visitors: its stratum-inspired structure is intended as an interactive platform for the exploration of materials, treatments and applications used in design, architecture and building.
Augmenting the concept, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of fresh juices, blended from organic ingredients that are used in architecture, interiors and construction, in order to – literally – get a taste of raw design and building materials.
“Mattergarden emotes elemental energy and purity on a number of levels. Our aim is that Mattergarden might serve as a mini ‘oasis’ for the show, helping visitors feel inspired, revitalised and refreshed.”
