New Gas Barrier Membrane Eclipses the Field

Multigas 500, a new methane, radon and CO2  gas barrier membrane, is protecting the new Eclipse 136 warehouse-office development in Greater Manchester

Irlam, an area in Salford, Greater Manchester, is the home to a new industrial development by Marshall Construction. The scheme comprises two high quality detached warehouse/distribution units, along with two storey offices. The units are of steel frame construction with a propped portal to the main warehouse area and incorporating offices to the front of the building. One unit is already sold, while the other offers 131,000 sq ft on the ground floor, plus 5,000 sq ft of first-floor offices.

Assessment showed that the site required gas safety measures for the construction and SPS Substructure Protection Ltd, specialist installers of gas barrier membranes and waterproofing tanking systems, were appointed. They chose a new gas barrier developed by Industrial Textiles & Plastics Ltd (ITP), a North Yorkshire based company with more than 25 years’ experience with gas and chemical barrier technology. Powerbase® Multigas 500 is a premium multilayer reinforced LDPE gas barrier membrane for superior protection against radon, methane and CO2. It incorporates a reinforcement layer for high performance and an aluminium layer that is protected by a separate coating. The barrier is compliant to the BS8485:2015+A1:2019 standard “Code of practice for the design of protective measures for methane and carbon dioxide ground gases for new buildings.” BBA certification is in progress.

Multigas 500 is the newest addition to the Powerbase range of gas and chemical barriers, including high specification VOC and hydrocarbon barriers. Proprietary tapes, adhesives and primers are available for effective installation.
