Another Stirling Prize winner with VMZINC

After Niall McLaughlin’s Magdalene College Library, Cambridge in 2022, the John Morden Centre in South London by Mae Architects has become this years Stirling prize winner. However, being a Stirling prize winner is not the only common point between the two projects, both also have QUARTZ-ZINC PLUS standing seam roofs. In recent years other Stirling prize winning projects using VMZINC as a roofing and façade material include Hastings Pier and the Newport street gallery.

These projects benefit from the attractive aesthetic of zinc roofs and facades and indeed its durability which the BRE estimates at 100 years in the Environmental Production Declaration EN 15804. Furthermore Brooft4 fire tests show no flame spread or penetration. All this with a minimal maintenance regime that non painted zinc offers.

Pre-weathered zinc comes in a wide number of attractive finishes but for these to be successfully transformed into a finished roof or wall not only must correct design be followed but it is imperative to use skilled specialist installers. VMZINC works with partner VMZINC@WORK installers who have a known track record of successfully installing zinc and can benefit from a 50 year material warranty.
