Surface Design Show 2024 unveils the best in material innovation

Returning to the London Business Design Centre from February 6-8, 2024. The eagerly anticipated Surface Design Show is poised to unveil the latest advancements in surface materials.

Under the theme of ‘Mindful Living,’ Surface Design Show will delve into the integral role of materials and their properties in shaping multi-sensory spaces. The show will scrutinise the ongoing fusion of virtual and real worlds, probing into the implications of technological advancements and novel design approaches on the built environment. Look out for Surface Spotlight Live, a focal point where the theme takes centre stage.

Over 180 exhibitors will be showcasing the best in material innovation from across the world, with sustainability a key focus for the show. Many of its exhibitors will be launching new products that have specifically been designed with the environment in mind including Studio Mafa who have created a new material Erth an innovative material similar to MDF made from cow manure or Pierreplume who have created Featherweight a wall cladding made from 70% recycled textiles like polyester, cotton, wool and acrylics.

Surface Design Show 24 will be its most international to date welcoming over 60 international companies from 17 different companies which include Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Turkey, USA, Uzbekistan, Spain and the Ukraine. Surface Design Show will also be welcoming back its friends from The Italian Pavilion; the collective Italian area is devoted to the best in Italian stone with the 2023 edition featuring 21 exhibitors revealing the beauty of Italian stone.

Curated by Chief Creative Director at Trendease International Jennifer Castoldi and sponsored by CDUK, New Talent is a key focus for Surface Design Show. Once again, the New Talent section will inspire and excite visitors whilst supporting those starting their career in the design world.

Jennifer Castoldi CEO and Chief Creative Director, Trendease International comments:

“Since 2018 Trendease International has been scouting talent from around the world for the Surface Design Show and we are excited to bring the next selection of innovative minds to showcase at the Business Design Centre in February.  We have quite the line up including: a cutting-edge translucent tile made of broken ceramics and waste ash that can be used to make furniture, lighting, and tableware, biomaterials such as one comprised of discarded ceramics and sugar beet pulp, tiles for thermal and acoustic insulation, interactive lighting design, alternative flooring, and a large collection of talented wallpaper and textile designers.”

New Talent, Nanxi Ai founder of Incro Design comments:

“Surface Design Show provides a great platform for exchanging new ideas and meeting new friends. We are curious and passionate about joining other designers and brands to work together to call for a more inclusive and sustainable material future.”

The Stone Knowledge Hub is also returning to the 2024 Surface Design Show, bigger and better than ever. Building on the success of the 2023 edition and thanks to the increase in the number of Stone Federation members wanting to showcase their materials and expertise, the size of this feature has increased. The go-to place for architects and designers looking to find inspiration and information for their natural stone projects, the Stone Knowledge Hub is host to some of the leading names with the UK natural stone sector.

The ever-popular Opening Night Debate will focus on the Mindful Living theme of the show. This can be found on the Main Stage where over the rest of the two and a half days a range of debates, panels, trend forecasts and insights into the latest material innovations will take place. The Legends Live series of fireside chats with experienced industry professionals also returns this year hosted by Design Insider editor Alys Bryant.

Surface Design Show is also delighted to be introducing a new charity partner Furnishing Futures, Furnishing Futures focuses on creating beautifully designed, fully furnished healing homes for women and children who have suffered domestic abuse.
