A vast array of aesthetics for VMZINC roofs and walls

When VMZINC was first produced back in 1837, batten cap roofing in mill finish Natural zinc was the norm and this is indeed what Parisian roofs are still known for to this day.

Very dark ANTHRA-ZINC was first manufactured in 1978 but since the beginning of the 21st century the number of pre-weathered zincs available to designers has increased exponentially, with 10 standard finishes now being available. The most popular finish is still the middle grey QUARTZ-ZINC but the PIGMENTO range with its discrete colour is becoming more and more popular. In addition, engraved AZENGAR with its bright and yet matt aspect is being seen on more projects.

Whilst batten cap zinc roofs are still very popular in continental Europe, the ‘standard’ zinc system in the UK and Ireland has become the standing seam system which is used in almost equal proportions for both roofs and walls. However in recent years a number of other systems have become more popular.

JM Architects used a range of finishes and systems including rainscreen panels for a residential project at Lampwick Quay, Manchester.

Similar finishes and indeed systems were used by Pollard Thomas Edwards including a bespoke gold aspect on the East Square cinema in Basildon, however due to design choices the resulting aesthetic is quite different.

The Martello Café in Felixstowe, Suffolk by Plaice Making also combines finishes and systems, in this case PIGMENTO Blue and QUARTZ-ZINC PLUS with standing seam panels and ADEKA shingles.

At the Space Park in Leicester, Shepheard Epstein Hunter used engraved AZENGAR flat lock panels to great effect.

Coming round full circle, QUARTZ-ZINC batten cap panels have been used on a bandstand in Victoria Park in Stafford.

VMZINC has not only been used since 1837 to add aesthetic value to the exterior of new and renovated buildings. It is also very durable and a BRE Environmental Product Declaration indicates a service life of 100 years with full recyclability. VMZINC also has A1/A2 combustibility ratings and has passed BROOFt4 fire tests. Last but not least, this is also now backed up by a 50 year material warranty that is offered to VMZINC@WORK partner installation companies.
